Walter E. "Ace" Muchow, 88, of Hanover, IL, formerly of Galena, IL, passed away Tuesday morning, March 25, 2014, at home.
Funeral Services will be at 10 A/M, Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, in Galena, with Rev. Jim McCrea officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena, where full military honors will be accorded by members of American Legion Post #193 and V.F.W. Post #2665.
Friends may call from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, Friday, March 28th, and after 9 A/M on Saturday, March 29th, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena.
Ace was born on February 21, 1926, in Hanover Township of Jo Daviess County, the son of Walter W. and Ardale (Nagel) Muchow. He was a 1943 graduate of Galena High School, a veteran of WW #2, serving with the Army in Germany. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193, where he served as Commander for over 30 years. Ace was also a member of Galena Elks Lodge #882.
He had a great passion for cracking walnuts, hickory nuts, and loved watching the birds and squirrels in the front yard. Ace was an avid gardener and could perform magic growing vegetables almost anywhere. He loved hunting and fishing in his younger years.
He formerly was employed in the construction industry and helped his father build "the Hill Presbyterian Church" in Galena. He also worked as a bartender and helped at the Galena Greenhouse.
Surviving is his wife, Kristy Vosberg-Muchow, of Hanover, IL; a daughter, Wendy (Jim) Holman, of Galena, IL; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Kurt) Kritz, of Wilton, IA and Captain Jodi Gonyou, of San Antonio, TX; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Mitchel, Riley and Aubrie; a step-son, Jake Groezinger, of Davenport, IA; a step-daughter, April Groezinger, of Dubuque, IA; four brothers, Kenneth (Marion) Muchow and Ralph (Jean) Muchow, of Galena, IL, Ronald "Jim" Muchow, of Salt Lake City, UT, Larry (Ev) Muchow, of Winnebago, IL; a sister-in-law, Jean Muchow, of Galena, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Ace was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ardale; a brother, Charles Muchow; a sister-in-law, Cathy Muchow; a great-granddaughter, Brooke Kritz; and a great-nephew, Clint Sitzmann.
