Vincent Joseph "Vince" Hasken, 81, of Dubuque, IA, formerly of East Dubuque, IL, passed away, on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Stonehill Care Center, in Dubuque, IA, with his family by his side.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Monday, November 17, 2014, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque, IL, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of American Legion Post #787, of East Dubuque.
Visitation will be from 1 P/M to 5 P/M, on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where the parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 12:45 P/M, on Sunday. Members of East Dubuque American Legion Post #787 will meet at 1:30 P/M, on Sunday, and members of the Menominee-Dunleith Fire Department will meet at 2 P/M, on Sunday, at the funeral home.
Vince was born near Menominee, IL, the son of Joseph and Alvina (Ricke) Hasken. He married Lou Mae Vanderah on August 24, 1954, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque. They celebrated sixty (60) years of marriage this past August. He was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement.
Vince was a member of St. Mary's Parish where he served as an usher for many years and its Holy Name Society. He was a charter member of Bishop O'Neill K of C Council #7527, Msgr. C. F. Conley Assembly 4th Degree, East Dubuque American Legion Post #787, former member of the Jo Daviess County Board, where he served as finance chairman, former member of the Dunleith Township Board, East Dubuque Cemetery Board, a retired member of the Menominee-Dunleith Fire Department, and a former member and past president of the East Dubuque School Board.
Vince was an avid golfer, a Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Iowa Hawkeyes Fan. He was very dedicated to the Pro-Life Cause and very supportive of the Special Olympics program.
Surviving are his wife, Lou Mae; nine (9) children, Angela (Jeff) Shalla, of Iowa City, IA, Joan (Jim) Lampe, of Red Deer, Canada, Diane (Kevin) Hilby, of Rockford, IL, Teresa (Kevin) Driscoll, of Des Moines, IA, Sandra (Eric) Zelinskas, of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Sarah (Peter) Stonkas, of Parkview, IA, Amy (Roger) Oberfoell, of Cedar Rapids, IA, Robert "Rob" (Lindsay) Hasken, of Champaign, IL, Katie (Aaron) Robinson, of Des Moines, IA; fifty-two (52) grandchildren; fourteen (14) great-grandchildren; his siblings, Donald Hasken, of Dubuque, IA, Earl (Doris) Hasken, and Roseann (Harlan) Nauman, of East Dubuque, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Greg, on April 1, 2007; and a sister, Darlene Gartner.
Memorials may be given to Dubuque County Right to Life and the Jo Daviess County Special Olympics program.
Lou Mae and family wish to "thank" the nurses and staff at Stonehill Care Center and the nurses and staff from Hospice of Dubuque for the wonderful care given to Vince.
