With the compassionate care of his family, his doctors, the emergency room, amazing ICU staff and 5th Floor nursing staff, his last days were made as comfortable as possible.

Friends may call from 10 A/M to 12:30 P/M, Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL. There will be a brief prayer service and military rites conducted at 12:30 P/M. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Military honors will be accorded by members of the East Dubuque American Legion Post #787.

Vic was born on October 18, 1931, in Dubuque, IA, son of Victor and Margaret (Meisenberg) Buhr. He was married to Diane Vandermillen for 20 years during which time they had three children.

You may remember Vic from the Safari Supper Club in East Dubuque which he owned and operated with Diane from 1961 to 1974. Maybe you recognize him as the guy at the Big 10 Mart station behind the counter up by Highway 11, or the gas station at the end of the bridge in East Dubuque. You might just remember Vic as the fella who chatted with you at the Swiss Inn or his visits to Bohlen's Tap to play cards or maybe from the Galena Golf & CC, (he loved playing golf, the 19th hole was the end to a great round). He could also be seen bowling on many different leagues in his younger years. If you happened by his mobile home at Frentress Lake you were sure to see him outside happily tending to his flowers. For the last 4 years, Vic made his home at Ecumenical Towers where he gained many friends. Vic was most proud of his three children and his years serving his country with pride in the Army Air Force (USAF) from 1951-1954. He was always eager to share his military memories with anyone willing to listen.

Left to carry on his memory are his children, Victor (Beth) Buhr III, of Holmen, WI, Shelly (Rich) Rehfeldt, of Dubuque, IA, and Mark (Jan) Buhr, of St. Cloud, MN; their mother, Diane Buhr (Vandermillen); his five grandchildren, Vic IV, Christi (Brent), Amber, Amanda, and Matthew; seven step-grandchildren, Cade, Raeanna, Michaela, Miranda, Elizabeth, Oliver and Torrell; and two great-grandchildren, McKenna and Adeline.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, and a daughter-in-law.
