Thomas F. "Tom" Leibold, 84, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away at 12:56 A/M, on Sunday, August 23, 2015, at Luther Manor, in Dubuque, IA, with his family by his side.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A/M, on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, with military honors accorded by members of the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Visitation will be from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be recited at 3:45 P/M
Tom was born on July 30, 1931, in East Dubuque, the son of Edward and Angeline (Sherman) Leibold. He was united in marriage to Darlene M. Tigges, on July 30, 1955, at St. Philomena's Church, Asbury, IA.
Tom served in the U. S. Army from 1955 to 1957. Tom as a realtor from 1960 until his retirement in 2008, concentrating on farm, commercial sales, and development property in Dubuque, East Dubuque, and around Iowa and Minnesota. He built St. Mary's Apartments for the Elderly and managed it for 30 years. He enjoyed flying his Cessna off his farm to show properties and for aerial photography.
Tom was President of the International Traders Club in 1967, President of the Dubuque Board of Realtors in 1969, President of the Farm & Land Institute in 1977, President of the Real Estate Securities & Syndication in 1979, and Iowa Farm & Land Broker of the year in 1979.
Tom was a member of St. Mary's Parish, its Holy Name Society, the Noon Optimist Club since 1961, East Dubuque - Knights of Columbus - Council #7527, and the East Dubuque Zoning Commission. Tom was very active with the "Right to Life Organization" and participated in numerous pickets against Planned Parenthood in the Dubuque area.
He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, his trips to Montana and Alaska, and swimming and exercising. Tom had the ability to converse with anyone he met. He was co-chairman of the new St. John the Baptist Church, built in Peosta, IA, in 1989.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene Leibold; three (3) children, Bruce (Betty "Sam") Leibold, Denise (Jerry Killens) Ronek and Michelle (John Simpson) Leibold; four (4) grandchildren, Tracy (Ryan) Ricketts, Heather Ronek, Forrest Simpson and Quinn Simpson; and his sister, Jane (Allen) Kieler, of Hazel Green, WI.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Angeline; siblings, Donald Leibold, Madelyn Hanley, Art Leibold, and an infant brother, Joseph.
