Thelma B. Hicks, 102, of Galena, IL, and formerly of Forreston, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at the Galena-Stauss Senior Care Community.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 A/M, on Friday, June 5, 2015, at the Chapel Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Dixon, IL.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena, IL, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hicks was born on September 28, 1912, near Steward, IL, the daughter of Lewis D. and Zuelemma (Byrd) Pettenger. She was united in marriage to Merl L. Hicks on September 27, 1934, in Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1995. Thelma and Merl moved to Galena in 1992.

She was a former member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Galena. Thelma's greatest joy in life was her grandchildren. She loved the staff and care she received at the Senior Care Community.

Surviving are three (3) children, Robert Hicks, of Azuza, CA, Donald (Linda) Hicks, of Ogden, IL, and Diane (Eric) Siese, of Galena, IL; six (6) grandchildren, James and John Hicks, Matthew and Andrew Hicks, and Nathan and Brett Faulkner; her great-grandson, Ian Faulkner; and a sister, Florence (Glen) Bates, of Lansing, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merl; a daughter, Joan (Dwayne) Hamilton; siblings, Warren A. Pettenger, Lyle W. Pettenger, Viotlet F. Miller, Margaret Otterbach, Edna Young, Ansel Petterger, Hazel Olson and Rosalia Burgert.
