Stephen L. "Steve" Kieffer, 81, of Scales Mound, IL, passed away at 6:54 A/M, on Friday, September 23, 2016, at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Monday, September 26, 2016, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Scales Mound, with Fr. Stanislaw Kos officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Scales Mound, where military honors will be accorded by members of VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193.
Visitation will be from 2 P/M to 6 P/M, on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, in Scales Mound, where the parish rosary will be recited at 1:45 P/M. Visitation will continue on Monday morning from 9:30 A/M to 10:15 A/M, at Holy Trinity Church.
Steve was born on August 17, 1935, in Menominee, IL, the son of Louis and Alverna (Kuhl) Kieffer. He served during the Korean Conflict, in the U. S. Marines, from 1952-1955. Steve was united in marriage to Carol Schuller, on December 22, 1955, at St. Mary's Church, in Galena.
He was a machinist at John Deere Dubuque Works, retiring after thirty-one (31) years of service. Following retirement, he enjoyed working at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course for seventeen (17) years. Steve was a member of UAW Local #94, Holy Trinity Parish, the Scales Mound Fire Department, the Scales Mound Lions Club, VFW Post 2665, and the American Legion Post #193, of Galena. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, euchre, telling jokes, baking cookies and was a fan of the Chicago Bears. Steve had a great love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Carol; four (4) children, Pam (Steve) Koester, Patti (Dave) Glasgow, Paula (Al) Busch and Todd (Vickie) Kieffer, all of Scales Mound, IL; ten (10) grandchildren; twelve (12) great-grandchildren; his siblings, Anna Mae Edmonds and Pete (Janet) Kieffer, both of Galena, IL, and Jane (Larry) Daniels, of Henderson, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Tracy Glasgow; and siblings, Lois Donatsch, Rosie Gaine, Pat, Dan, Dave and Louie Kieffer.
The family wishes to "thank" Dr. Michael Wells, the staff and nurses at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community and Hospice of Dubuque for their care and kindness.
