Sister June Wilkerson (Mary Jerome), OP, 91, died at St. Dominic Villa, November 24, 2015.
Sister June was, for 30 years, a social studies teacher and curriculum director for justice. She served 19 years as a Catholic Charities director of peace and justice, and as a parish Christian action coordinator. Sister June ministered in several areas of health outreach for 19 years, five of which she coordinated a program for the removal of tattoos for former gang members.
Sister June's ministries took her to Illinois, Montana, Alabama, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana and California.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 A/M, on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at the Gathering Place Chapel, Sinsinawa, followed by burial of the cremains in the Motherhouse Cemetery. Friends may call after 5:15 P/M, on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at the Motherhouse, where a wake and remembering service will take place at 6:30 P/M.
Sister June was born on June 8, 1924, in St. Louis, MO, to Jerome and Mary Grace (Mead) Wilkerson, and made her profession August 5, 1948. Sister June is survived by a brother, Jack Wilkerson; nieces; nephews; and the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, with whom she shared life for 67 years.
