Sister Helen O'Neill, O.P.,(Patrick Mary), 89, died August 25, 2013, at St. Dominic Villa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Queen of Rosary Chapel, Sinsinawa, WI, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Friends may call after 5:15 P/M, Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at the Motherhouse where a wake and remembering service will be held at 6:30 P/M.
The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
Sister Helen taught and administereed in elementery schools for 20 years; then spent two years in administration at Rosary College (now Dominican University), River Forest, IL.
Sister earned a doctorate in sacred theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, Rome, Italy, and taught scripture at Rosary College for three years and at Providence College, Providence, RI, for fifteen years.
Sister Helen ministered two years at a retreat center and three years teaching in the Rockford diocesan program for adults.
The last years of her life, Sister Helen enriched community life at the Mound and Villa.
Her ministries took her to Illinois, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York, Florida, Iowa and Italy.
Sister Helen, born August 30, 1923, in East Dubuque, IL, to Clara Runde and Leslie J. O'Neill, made her profession February 3, 1945. Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Earl J. O'Neill and the Most Rev. Arthur J. O'Neill, retired Bishop of the Rockford Diocese; and two sisters, Ruth Hocking and Lois Cassidy. She is survived by a sister, Erma Schneider, Dubuque, IA; nieces; nephews; and the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 68 years.
