Sister Mary O'Brien (Columbiere), OP, 85, died Monday, January 28, 2013, at St. Dominic Villa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in Queen of Rosary Chapel, Sinsinawa, WI, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery. Friends may call after 5:15 P/M, Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Motherhouse, where a wake and remembering service will be held at 6:30 P/M.
Sister Mary devoted 25 years to teaching in Rockford, Chicago, East Dubuque, and River Forest, IL; Minneapolis, MN; and Shorewood and Milwaukee, WI. Sister served 28 years as a career counselor in Seattle and Olympia, WA; and 11 years as a family caregiver in Renton, WA.
Sister, for a short time before her death, enriched community life at the Motherhouse and at St. Dominic Villa.
Sister Mary, born August 31, 1927, in St. Paul, MN to Theresa LaParte and Charles O'Brien, made her profession August 5, 1947. Sister is survived by nieces, nephews, and the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters with whom she shared her life for 65 years.
