Obituary

Sister Denise Lyons, OP, (Rosemary), 84, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014, at St. Dominic Villa.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Queen of the Rosary Chapel, at Sinsinawa, WI. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Spokane, WA.

Friends may call after 5 P/M, on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Motherhouse, where a remembering and wake service will take place at 6:30 P/M.

The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Denise taught 15 years and served as a substitute teacher for 7 years in elementery schools in Shelby and Cut Bank, MT, and in Spokane, WA.

Sister Denise devoted 27 years volunteering as a receptionist and enriching community left while at the Dominican Center, Spokane, WA, and at St. Dominic Villa.

Sister Denise was born January 4, 1930, in Walla Walla, WA, to Mary Denzel and William Lyons. Sister Denise made her first religious profession as a Poor School Sister of St. Dominic at Speyer, Germany, at Kettle Falls, WA, on August 30, 1958, and her final profession on August 19, 1964. The congregation members at Kettle Falls became the Dominican Sisters of Spokane in 1986, and merged with the Sinsinawa Dominicans in 1995.

Sister Denise is survived by a brother, William Lyons; three (3) sisters, Rita Van Cleve, Monica Lyons, and Margaret Mary Coan; nieces; nephews; and the Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 55 years.
