Sister Marie Joan O'Keefe, OP, 92, died October 30, 2013, at Saint Dominic Villa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Queen of Rosary Chapel, Sinsinawa, WI, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery. Friends may call after 5:30 P/M, Monday, November 4th, at the Motherhouse where a wake and remembering service will be held at 6:30 P/M.
The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
Sister Marie Joan devoted 46 years to elementary education, 41 as teacher and 5 as principal. The 20 years Sister served as staff took many forms, including secretarial tasks, supervising transportation and food service for the community.
The last years of her life were devoted to enriching community life at the Motherhouse and Villa.
Sister ministered in Illinois, New York, Minnesota, California, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Indiana.
Sister Marie Joan, born November 21, 1920, in Omaha, NE, to Helen Carver and Denis O'Keefe, made her profession August 5, 1940. Sister is survived by nieces, nephews and the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 73 years.
