Obituary

Sister LaVonne Herrig, OSF, 97, of Clare House, Dubuque, IA, passed away at 8 P/M, on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Clare House.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 P/M, on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Mt. St. Francis Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 P/M to 7 P/M, on Monday, March 9, 2015, with a Wake Service at 7 P/M, in the Mt. St. Francis Chapel.

Sister was born on May 8, 1917, in Iona, Minnesota, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Kayser) Herrig.

Sister entered the Sisters of St. Francis on September 15, 1935, and made final profession of vows August 10, 1941. Sister ministered as a teacher in the Iowa cities of Templeton, Pocahontas, Worthington, Halbur, Dubuque (Sacred Heart) and Waterloo (St. Edward's); Melrose Park in Illinois; Crescent City in California; and Portland in Oregon.

Sister is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared 78 years of her life.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers and their wives, Lawrence (Ann) Herrig, Leo (Freda) Herrig, Joseph Herrig, Alfred (Clara) Herrig; her sister, Mary, who died in infancy; her sisters and their husbands, Loretta (Fred) Goesser, Gertrude (Ray) Tennessen; and her Franciscan Sisters, Sister Joan Herrig, Sister Yvonne Herrig and Sister Luan Herrig.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis, Dubuque, IA.

The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
