Sister Jeanne Flanagan, OP (John Dominici), 91, died January 14, 2017, at. St. Dominic Villa.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A/M, on Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Motherhouse Chapel. Friends may call after 5:15 P/M, on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at the Motherhouse, where a remembering service will take place at 6:30 P/M.
The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
Sister Jeanne's gifts led to many ministries in her lifetime. She taught in secondary schools in Faribault, MN, Cheyenne, WY, and Milwaukee, WI, and served as principal at St. Joseph Cathedral HS, O'Gorman Catholic, in Sioux Falls, SD, Queen of Peace HS, Burbank, IL, and Dominican HS, Whitefish Bay, WI.
Sister Jeanne was the first Prioress Provincial of the Southwest Province. She continued in that leadership position between 1968 and 1976. She ministered as adult education director of Epiphany Parish, Oklahoma City, OK, and St. Paul Apostle Parish, Richardson, TX. For ten (10) years she was the assistant director in the diocesan Office of Religious Education, Beaumont, TX. Returning to Sinsinawa in 1996, she served as spiritual director and Scripture teacher before coming to St. Dominic Villa a few months ago.
Born in Chicago, IL, May 30, 1925, to John and Loretta (Gillen) Flanagan, she made religious profession, August 5, 1949. She is survived by nieces and by her Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters.
