Sister John Eudes Courtney, OP, died December 22, 2017.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at the Sinsinawa Motherhouse. A wake service will be held there at 6:30 P/M, on Monday, January 1, 2018.
Her ministry as an English teacher was at the following high schools: Holy Trinty, Bloomington, IL; Bethlehem Academy, Faribault, MN; St. Catherine, Anaconda, MT; St. Cecilia, Omaha, NE; Visitation, Chicago, IL; Freeport Aquin, Freeport, IL; Dominican, Whitefish Bay, WI; St. Cecilia, Nashville, TN; and Boylan, Rockford, IL.
She received a Master's Degree, in English, from the Catholic University of America.
Other ministries included one year as librarian at Christendom College, Triangle, VA, and as a pastoral enabler at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, in Triangle. She also ministered for one year as a neighborhood organizer and prison visitor while at Annunciation Parish, Chicago, IL.
She returned to serve at the Dominican Motherhouse in 1989 and served (26) years there before joining the St. Dominic Villa community in June, 2015.
Sister John Eudes was born September 26, 1922, to Harvey and Josephine (Ogden) Courtney, in Chicago, IL.
She is survived by nieces and nephews; many friends; and her Dominican Sisters.
The Miller Funeral Home, of East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
