Sister Eunice (Elsa) Hittner, 96, of Mount St. Francis, Dubuque, IA, passed away at 4:20 A/M, on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Clare House, Dubuque, IA.

A Memorial Mass will be at 1:00 P/M, on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, in the Mount St. Francis Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

A Funeral Vigil Service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016, at 7:00 P/M, in Mount St. Francis Chapel.

Sister Eunice was born on December 19, 1919, in Cornlea, NE, to William and Emma (Olk) Hittner.

Sister entered the Sisters of St. Francis January 28, 1935, from Cornlea, NE, and made final profession of vows August 10, 1941. Sister ministered as a teacher in the Iowa cities of Bancroft, Ossian, St. Edwards - Waterloo, and in Dubuque at Holy Trinity, Immaculate Conception Academy and Mt. St. Francis. She also taught at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., and at Nelson, British Columbia, in Canada, and in Vancouver, WA. She also ministered in Oregon at St. Helen's, Monroe and Portland.

Sister is survived by her brothers, Leon (Joan) Hittner and Glenn Hittner; her sister, Leila McGraw and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared 80 years of her life.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William (Audrey) Hittner; and her sister-in-law, Joan Hittner.

Memorial may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis, Dubuque, IA.
