Sister Mary Catherine Perkins, OP, died April 16, 2023, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. She was one of five children born to George and Norean (Cronin) Perkins. After receiving her bachelor's degree in French, she entered the Sinsinawa Dominicans congregation and received the name Sister Mary Cronan. Sister Mary Catherine taught French and Spanish in high schools in the District of Columbia, Illinois, Connecticut, Iowa and Wisconsin from 1954 to 1982. During this time, she earned her master's in Romance languages. She then served as administrator of the Dominican Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Wis., for six years before moving to Bend, Ore., to minister from 1990 to 2004 with the Diocese of Baker as director of the ReNew program, with the adult faith formation program, and as superintendent of schools. Sister Mary Catherine volunteered with Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers in Bend and with Holy Spirit Church, Schaumberg, Ill., before joining the communities at the Motherhouse and St. Dominic Villa.
