Sister Cecilia Carey, OP, 94, died August 12, 2016, at St. Dominic Viilla, Sinsinawa, WI.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Queen of Rosary Chapel, Sinsinawa, WI, followed by burial in the Motherhouse cemetery.

Friends may call after 5:15 P/M, on Monday, August 15, 2016, at the Motherhouse, where a wake and remembering service will take place at 6:30 P/M.

The Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Cecilia devoted most of her religious life to education. She taught elementary and high school students 1940-1955; ministered at Edgewood College, Madison, WI, as teacher, 1955-1957 and 1958-1963; as president of the college, 1967-1977; and taught at La Normal Catholica, Cochabamba, Bolivia, 1963-1967. Sister Cecilia served as prioress of the Sinsinawa Dominican congregation, 1977-1986; taught at Rosary College, River Forest, IL, 1987-1989; and ministered as pastoral associate, 1989-2003, and as volunteer, 2002-2007.

Sister Cecilia, born August 17, 1921, in Casselton, ND, to Thomas and Elizabeth (Mahon) Carey, made her profession August 6, 1940.

Sister is survived by her sister, Sister Mary Lois Carey, OP; a brother, Mark Carey; sister-in-law, Grace Carey; nieces and nephews; and the Sinsinawa Dominicans with whom she shared life for (76) years.
