Obituary

Shirley M. (Koehler) Renne, 78, of Asbury, IA, formerly of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015, at home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon, on Friday, November 13, 2015, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 A/M to 11:30 A/M, on Friday, at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque.

Shirley was born on December 29, 1936, in Galena, IL, the daughter of Clement and Nellie (Douglas) Koehler. She was united in marriage to Donald E. Renne on August 30, 1958, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Scales Mound, IL. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2009.

She was a graduate of Scales Mound High School, Class of 1954. Shirley retired from H & R Block, Inc., after forty (40) years of service. She enjoyed her job through the years and made many friends. She taught many tax courses from the beginner to the most advanced. She also was an enrolled agent for many years.

In the early years, Shirley's hobbies included sewing, crafts and baking. She enjoyed raising her children and getting involved in their activities. Later, she became an active member of St. Mary's Altar & Rosary Society, where she held many offices through the years.

Shirley became an avid Chicago Cubs fan while watching the games with her husband, even after his death you would still catch her watching and rooting on the "Cubbies". She enjoyed going to lunch with the "ladies", she loved going to craft shows and festivals, eating out and weekend trips, and she loved playing the slots. She was always on the Go...there was no slowing her down no matter what the obstacles.

Her greatest joys in life though were her "Little Buddy", Boomer (the dog), her children and grandchildren. No matter where they lived or where they were, they were always in Gramma's thoughts and prayers. She loved them all more than words could ever say.

Mom will be missed by all who knew her. She never complained, criticized or judged anyone. She believed that each person was their own and that you become the person you are meant to be and that God is and was her strength through life, right to the end.

She overcame many obstacles in her life that many of us would have given up on. She almost always had a smile on her face, a shoulder to lean on, and an ear to listen. She always helped those who needed her without complaint.

I, personally, am grateful for the second chance to have gotten to know my mom and to have spent this time realizing just how lucky I am to have had her in my life. She was my best friend and always will be.

I love you Mom...Thank you for loving me! I will miss you always. There is no more pain, only joy and happiness; there is no more loneliness for you're with the love of your life...Daddy! Keep smiling, keep believing until we meet again...I love you!
