Sarah R. (Winter) Werner, 91, of rural Scales Mound, IL, passed away, at 2:33 A/M, on Monday, November 21, 2016, at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Scales Mound, with Fr. David Reese officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 P/M to 7 P/M, on Friday, November 25, 2016, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, in Scales Mound, and after 9:30 A/M, on Saturday, at Holy Trinity Church.
Sarah was born on March 5, 1925, on the family farm in East Galena Township, of Jo Daviess County, the daughter of Wilmer and Minnie (Wolford) Winter. She was united in marriage to James C. Werner, on February 16, 1946, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Scales Mound. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1994.
She was a graduate of Galena High School, Class of 1943. Sarah was a farm wife and was employed at the Hazel Green Hospital until its closing in 1983 and later did in home care. She loved all Scales Mound sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Sarah loved crocheting, making numerous doilies and pillow cases. She had a deep love for her children and especially her grandchildren. Sarah enjoyed playing cards in the 50+ group.
Surviving are three (3) sons, Dennis Werner and Leo (Janet) Werner, both of Scales Mound, IL, and Larry (Brenda) Werner, of Galena, IL; four (4) grandchildren, Brad (Keri) Werner, Hiedi (Neal) Edelson, Adam and Justin (Ericka) Werner; four (4) great-grandchildren, Ben, Anniston, Landon and Maxwell; her siblings, Clarence (Rita) Winter, of Galena, IL, Lucille Brown, of Apple River, IL, and Mona Bodell, of Hazel Green, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James C. Werner; siblings, Michael, Fred, and Carl Winter, Violet Hesselbacher, Clara "Buzz" Westphal, Helen Bell, and Virginia Berlage.
