Ruth was born on January 21, 1925, in Schapville, IL, to Elmer and Emma (Schumacher) Dotzel. She attended Scales Mound High School, where she met her sweetheart, Vernon E. Redfearn. After graduating, Ruth traveled to California where she married Vernon on November 5, 1945, at the Naval Base on Treasure Island.
After returning to Scales Mound, they worked on the Thomas Doyle farm in Shullsburg, WI, and then on the Temple Redfearn "Jesus Save Rock" farm in rural Scales Mound. In 1951, they bought a farm in East Galena Township where they raised their four (4) children till 1970, at that time they built their present home. On the farm, Ruth always raised a huge garden and was a great farm hand to her husband. Ruth attended Capri College in 1971 and received her degree as a hair stylist. She styled hair for many years in her home on Stagecoach Trail. One of her hobbies was quilting with a ladies group at her church, where her "stiches" created master pieces for many to cherish. She has blessed each grandchild with memories of camping, baking cookies, sleep overs and lots of good family fun. Ruth was an avid sports fan, traveling to all the grandkids ball games and school functions. If there was "polka music" playing in the tri-state area, you would find Ruth and Vernon kicking up their heels to their favorite tunes.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of seventy-one (71) years, Vernon; her children, Curtis (Karen) Redfearn and Janet (Leo) Werner, both of Scales Mound, IL, and Janice (Kevin) Bennett, of Benton, WI; ten (10) grandchildren; twelve (12) great-grandchildren, and one (1) due in July.
She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen, and his wife, Judy; her parents, Elmer and Emma; brothers, Woodrow and Russell; and sisters, Vivian Jones and Elaine Anderson.
