Obituary

Robert J. "Bob" Thill, 80, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 A/M, on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating and Deacon Jim Thill assisting. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, where a flag presentation will be accorded by members of American Legion Post #787.

Friends may call from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be recited at 3:45 P/M. Members of the East Dubuque Volunteer Fire Department will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6 P/M.

Bob was born on November 7, 1933, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Kenneth C. and Genevieve (Furlong) Thill. He graduated from Loras Academy and attended Loras College.

Bob married Mary C. Carpenter, on Mary 30, 1960, at Ft. Dodge, IA. He was formerly employed at Bradley Iron Works, in Dubuque, as office manager for 35 years until his retirement. He was a former member of the East Dubuque Volunteer Fire Department, and a Boy Scout Troop Leader for Troop #71, which he helped form serving for over 20 plus years. He loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed his hobby of taxidermy, and in later years going to the casino.

Bob, along with his three sons and four grandsons, have all earned their Eagle Scout award in scouting.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; five (5) children, Mike (Lynn) Thill, of Dubuque, IA, Ellen (Don) Shobe, of Lawrence, KS, Anne (Bob) Wallraff, of Cedar Rapids, IA, Dan (Beth) Thill, of Fitchburg, WI, and Greg (Angie) Thill, of Dubuque, IA; nine (9) grandchildren; two (2) great-grandsons; and his sister, Mary Jean (Harold) "Skip" Lange, of East Dubuque, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mary and her family would like to "thank" Dr. Kukla and his staff, and Hospice of Dubuque, especially his nurse, Barb, for their kind and compassionate care.
