Robert G. "Bob" Schauer, of Dubuque, IA, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Hawkeye Care Center, in Dubuque.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A/M, on Monday, July 2, 2018, at St. Anthony's Church, in Dubuque, with Rev. Steve Rosonke officiating.  Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of Dubuque American Legion Post #6.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be from 1 P/M - 6 P/M, on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, where the parish scripture service will be at 12:30 P/M, Sunday.

Bob was born on April 11, 1927, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Samuel Scott and Gertrude (Cooper) Schauer.

He attended East Dubuque schools, enlisting in the U. S. Navy, on April 3, 1945.  On November 24, 1949, he married his wife, Mary Lou Beitzel, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, in Dubuque, where he remained a member for (69) years.

Bob was building superintendent at the Dubuque Golf and Country Club for (40) years, where he met many lifelong friends.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, #510.  He was a lifelong member of the Power of Prayer.

Our very own "Renaissance Man", Bob was gifted with many talents.  Many that knew him commented "There wasn't anything he couldn't fix".  An excellent carpenter, plumber and licensed electrician, gifted mechanic, family and friends were often the recipients of his talents.  He built his own home and built or assisted with many others.  He enjoyed a good game of cards, as well as duck hunting, fishing, bowling and golf.  Bob had a unique sense of humor and left us with many humorous memories.  Many of his witticisms continue to be repeated through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou; children, Sherry (Gil) Hinz, Bob (Mary Kay) Schauer, Jr, Elizabeth (Carl) Heisler, Terri (Mike) Hesselman, Sam A. Schauer, Scott (Jane) Schauer, and Mike (Judy) Schauer; (26) grandchildren; and (46) great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jean (Louis) Sigwarth, Pat (Ted) Lightcap, Elsie Beitzel; brothers-in-law, Pete Beitzel and Carl Watson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Sammy (4 years old); a sister, Delores Watson; his in-laws, Al and Stella Beitzel, Mary Jane Beitzel, Bob (Roseanne) Beitzel, Kate (Ike) Lakeman, Rita (Harry) Theilen and Alan Jackson.

Memorials may be given to the Power of Prayer or St. Anthony's Church.

The family wishes to extend a "thank you" to Hawkeye Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for all of their compassionate care and kindness!

A "special thank-you" to Dr. John Whalen and staff who lovingly cared for Dad these many years!
