Robert D. Schalk, 83, of Scales Mound, IL, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away at 5:15 A/M, Thursday, January 9, 2014, at ManorCare, in Dubuque, IA.

Memorial Services will be at 11 A/M, Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Galena United Methodist Church, with Rev. Patricia Allen-Stewart officiating. Burial will be in the Scales Mound Township Cemetery. The Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound, in in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born on April 16, 1930, in Chicago, the son of Gustav & Rosalie (Bird) Schalk. He married Betty Gerecz on June 28, 1952, in Chicago, and they have been married for 61 wonderful years. Bob was a veteran of the U S Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Schalk was formerly purchasing agent for the Illinois Institute of Technology and the Gas Technology Institute, both in Chicago, and was also employed at London Fog, The Blue Moon, and was a golf marshall at Eagle Ridge, all in Galena. Bob was a loving husband, respected father, and adored his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; two daughters, Susan (Bill) O'Keefe, and Gail (Greg) Lupia, both of Downers Grove, IL; three grandchildren, Nina (Erik Schroeder) O'Keefe, Patrick (Erin) O'Keefe, and Betty Lupia; a sister, Mary Booth, of Mt. Prospect, IL; and a brother, Bill Schalk, of Chicago, IL.

"Donations" in Bob's name may be made to the United Methodist Church of Galena.
