Robert G. "Bob" Bauer, 84, of Menominee, IL, died at 9:15 A/M, Monday, February 11, 2013, at the Galena-Stauss Senior Care Community, Galena, IL, surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Nativity BVM Church, Menominee, IL. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by members of East Dubuque American Legion Post #787. Taps will be played by Bob's grandson, Daniel Wagner, on the bugle given to him by his grandfather.
Friends may call from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, Friday, February 15, 2013, and after 9 A/M, Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, where the parish rosary will be recited at 4 P/M. Members of American Legion Post #787 and the East Dubuque VFW Drum & Bugle Corps will meet at 6:30 P/M, Friday.
Bob was born on July 9, 1928, in East Dubuque, IL, the son of Albert and Ethel (Welter) Bauer. He was united in marriage to Edna Hoftender on June 15, 1954, at Nativity BVM Church. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2012. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was employed at the John Deere Dubuque Works retiring on September 30, 1987. He was a member of UAW Local #94 and the John Deere Retirees. Bob was also a member of Nativity BVM Parish, American Legion Post #787, East Dubuque VFW Drum and Bugle Corps and the former VFW Post #7976 of East Dubuque. He loved to play the bugle and taught himself how to play by ear. His family has many fond memories of him marching in parades for over 40 years.
Bob and Edna loved to garden, enjoyed a good game of cards and Bob meticously manicured his lawn. Since Edna's passing one year ago, Bob would always tell his family how much he loved and missed her. He was an honest, kind, and hard working man who loved his daughters and precious grandchildren.
Surviving are four daughters, Sharon (Wayne) Law, of Savanna, IL, Karen (Mark) Heiderscheit, of Dubuque, IA, Brenda (Bob) Spoerl, of Dickeyville, WI, and Darlene (Jerry) Stetter, of Winona, MN; Seven grandchildren, Samantha and Andrew Law, Tim Heiderscheit (fiancee, Kayla McCann), Alex Spoerl, Matt Wagner (finacee, Alli Lafferty), Daniel and Kaylin Wagner; two sisters, Lillian (Roger) VanNatta, of Stitzer, WI, and Charlotte (Jerry) Heitkamp, of Menominee, IL; one brother, Donald (Betty) Bauer, of Lancaster, WI; a step-sister, Dorothy (Elmer) Kaiser, of Dickeyville, WI; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Eldeen and Pat Wiederhold; and a brother-in-law, Kenny Freese.
