Rita R. (Pogeman) Winter, 90, of Galena, IL, formerly of Guilford Township and Scales Mound, IL, passed away Friday evening, March 1, 2019, at home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Scales Mound, with Fr. David Flanagan and Fr. Stanislaw Kos concelebrating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Scales Mound.

Visitation will be from 4 P/M to 6 P/M, on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, in Scales Mound, and from 9:30 A/M to 10:15 A/M, on Thursday, at the church. The parish and CDA rosary will be recited at 3:45 P/M, on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Rita was born on December 20, 1928, in Council Hill Township, of Jo Daviess County, the daughter of William and Viola (Hasken) Pogeman.  She was united in marriage to Clarence (C.H.) Winter on June 9, 1949, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  He preceded her in death on September 28, 2018.

Rita graduated from the University of Dubuque in 1968.  She was a retired teacher, having taught at Pleasant Ridge, St. Michael's in Galena, St. Mary's in East Dubuque and retired from the Galena Primary School in 1994.

She was a devout Catholic, had unconditional love and dedication to her family; faith and family were the absolute most important.  She enjoyed golf, would never turn down a game of cards, and Tuesday's were for bridge playing.  She was a member of St. Michael's Parish and it's Rosary Society, a former member of Holy Trinity Parish and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America-Isabella #572.

Surviving are four (4) daughters, Rosemary (Ron) Hendrickson and Beverly Feldermann, both of Galena, IL, Patti (John) Clark, of Mequon, WI, and Joan (friend, Patrick Garrity) Duran, of Kansas City, MO; a son, Donnie Winter, of Scales Mound, IL; fourteen (14) grandchildren; and sixteen (16) great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Viola; her husband, Clarence; son-in-law, Gary Feldermann; and her siblings, Regina Pogeman, Wilbur Pogeman, Clifford Pogeman and Esther Boldt.

Rita's family wishes to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to Dr. Beth Gullone, the nurses and staff at Midwest Medical Center, and to her caregivers, Bill and Jackie Houy, for the loving care given to our mother and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, a Rite Winter Memorial Fund has been established.
