Richard J. Meyer, 85, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away, peacefully, on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Bell Tower Retirement Home, in East Dubuque, surrounded by his loving family.
Friends and family may call from 3 P/M to 7 P/M, on Sunday, March 18, 2018, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be recited at 2:30 P/M.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Monday, March 19, 2018, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque. Burial will follow in the East Dubuque Cemetery.
Richard was born on July 29, 1932, in East Dubuque, the son of Joseph and Blanche (White) Meyer and graduated from the East Dubuque High School. He served our country with honor in the Army and was awarded the Bronze Star in the Korean War. He married way out of his league to Rosita Welp, on April 16, 1955, and had four children.
Richard retired as a tool and die maker from Flexsteel Industries. He loved putting puzzles together, playing euchre, the casino, traveling and sports, especially the World Champion Chicago Cubs. He was also active in St. Mary's Church.
Richard was a fantastic husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was also the nicest guy you would ever want to meet and had a sense of humor that was appreciated by all who met him.
He is survived by three (3) children, Deb (Terry) Temperley, of East Dubuque, IL, Dave (Debbie Schmitz) Meyer, of Grayslake, IL, and John Meyer, of Dyersville, IA; six (6) grandchildren, Luke and Brian Temperley, Molly Dallman and Joel Meyer, Natalie Meyer and Alicia Fortney; eight (8) great-grandchildren; and a special lady, Diane Buhr, of East Dubuque, IL.
Richard was welcomed to Heaven by his wife, Rosita; son, Joel; parents; and eight (8) brothers and sisters.
The family would like to "thank" the special people of Hospice, especially Shirley Amy, and Ryan, as well as the Angels at Bell Tower Retirement Home! They also request no flowers be sent.
