Richard E. "Dick" Brandel, age 85, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, at home following a lingering illness.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Burial will follow in East Dubuque Cemetery.

Dick was born in Dubuque, IA, the son of Eugene and Emma J. (Kaiser) Brandel. He was united in marriage to Alvera M. Koopman on June 20, 1994.

He was a former member of the Menominee-Dunleith Fire Dept. Dick was employed at the John Deere Dubuque Works and was a former member of U.A.W. Local # 94. He enjoyed visits to Texas and adventures with the grandkids.

Surviving are his wife of over 30 years, Alvera, and his caregiver during his illness of the past five years and was by his side when he passed; her children, Dawn (Bruce) McCann, of Dubuque, IA and Heidi (Sam) Rearick, of Lincoln, Nebraska; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; his sister, Darlene "Dolly" Brandel, of Dubuque, IA.

He was preceded in death parents; brother, Donald Brandel; and a granddaughter, Kimber.

A special thank you to the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque for their kindness and compassion, especially Karla, and to Amy for her kindness.
