Obituary

Ralph G. "Bud" Schoenhard, 88, of 1001 Assisi Drive, Dubuque, IA, and formerly of East Dubuque, IL, and Scales Mound, IL, passed away, on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at home.

Visitation will be from 11 A/M to 1 P/M, on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound. Private family burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery, in Scales Mound, following the visitation.

Bud was born on September 14, 1927, in Scales Mound, the son of Ralph and Mildred (McLean) Schoenhard. He was a graduate of Scales Mound High School and was united in marriage to Helene Hillemeyer on July 18, 1953, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, in Shullsburg, WI. They were married for sixty-three (63) years. Following their marriage, Bud & Helene resided in Chicago for four years, where he attended Moler Barber College.

He worked for the I.C.C.R. as a section hand. Bud served at the end of WWII in the Merchant Marines during which he sailed to Europe, China and India. He also served his country for another two years during the Korean Conflict.

While being a devoted father rearing six children, he provided for his family as a rural mail carrier for thirty-five (35) years and a barber for forty (40) years. Bud was civic minded and showed that by being a village trustee for thirty-five (35) years. He was also a former member of the Scales Mound Lions Club and the Scales Mound Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed following sports. Bud was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed life. Bud loved to drink beer and BS about politics and life. But nothing made him happier than spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Helene (Hillemeyer) Schoenhard; six (6) children, Jill (Chuck) Staab, of Platteville, WI, James (Jeanne) Schoenhard, of Mercer, WI, Joan (Steve) Efken, of Miromar Lakes, FL, Jon (Lisa) Schoenhard, of Stockton, IL, Jean (Tom) Schmieder, of Hazel Green, WI, and Jennifer (Kirk) Friederick, of Dubuque, IA; twelve (12) grandchildren, Sandra (Rick) Pohle, Bob (Katie), Michael (Mary), and Nick (fiance', Jennifer Edwards) Schoenhard, Lori Ann (Mike) Simmons, Steve (Abbey) Efken, Jr, Ellie Efken, Mallory (fiance', Tyler Hesselbacher) Schoenhard, Alex Schmieder, Maggie, Ethan and Evan Friederick; five (5) great-grandchildren, Jack Swenson, Caroline, Sawyer and Lila Schoenhard, and Jameson Efken.

Bud was prededed in death by his parents and a brother, Miles Schoenhard.

Memorials may be donated to Hospice of Dubuque.

Helene and family wish to give "thanks" to the staff of Assisi Village, Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Melanie, Stephanie and Ryan, for the wonderful care given to their husband and father.
