Philip A. "Phil" Runde, 73, of Kieler, WI, passed away at 3:05 A/M, Sunday, April 28, 2013, at home surrounded by his family, following a brief illness with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kieler, with Fr. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 P/M to 8 P/M, Thursday, May 2, 2013, and from 9 A/M to 10:15 A/M, Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Kieler, where the parish scripture service will be at 2 P/M, Thursday. The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
Phil was born on January 18, 1940, in East Dubuque, IL, the son of Philip and Rosalia (Kuhl) Runde. He attended grade school at St. Mary's in East Dubuque and graduated from St. Columbkille's High School in Dubuque, IA, in 1957.
On June 6, 1961, Phil married Mary Ann Timmerman, daughter of Delvan and Irene (Wiederholt) Timmerman, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler. He was a long time resident of Kieler, where he was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish and its Holy Name Society, and a retired member of the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for 15 years.
Over the years Phil worked at the Dubuque Packing Company, Linehan & Molo, Dubuque Diamond Jo, and for Securitas (at Quebecor and McGraw Hill), Hy-Vee, and most recently for Per-Mar (at Prudential). From 1985 to 2001, Phil and Mary Ann owned and operated Runde's Bar and Hall in Kieler.
Phil coached Little League for the Kieler Athletic Club, coached girls basketball, both A & B team for Immaculate Conception School from 1977-1982, ran Bob's Recreation Ball Diamond from 1980-1984, and umpired slow pitch softball throughout the Tri-State area. He was a Chicago Bears and Cubs fan, and he enjoyed playing solo, euchre, and morning coffee with his friends.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann; two daughters, Ann (Dale) Haverland, of Hazel Green, WI, and Angela (Dion) Nickel, of Wylie, TX; four grandchildren, Andrew and Rebecca Haverland and Ashley and Bryce Nickel; two brothers, LaVerne (Dola) Runde, of East Dubuque, IL, and David (Joyce) Runde, of Wiscosin Dells, WI; brothers and sisters-in law, Eldred "Gus" (Alvina) Timmerman, of rural Cuba City, WI, Anita (Bernard) Heileman, of Dickeyville, WI, and Jeanette (Faber) Runde, of Kieler, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Rosalia Runde; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard and Mary Eileen Runde and Gerald "Jerry" and Mary A. Runde; as well as his father and mother-in-law, Delvan and Irene Timmerman.
A Philip A. Runde Memorial Fund has been established.
