Paul C. Brashaw, 62, of rural Galena, IL, passed away, with his family by his side, following a sudden illness, on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, in Madison, WI.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Galena, with Fr. David Reese officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Galena.
Visitation will be from 3 P/M to 8 P/M, on Monday, July 18, 2016, at the Galena Bible Church, 11108 Highway 20 West, in Galena. Visitation will also be from 9:15 A/M to 10:15 A/M, on Tuesday, at St. Michael's Catholic Church.
The Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena, is serving the family.
Paul was born on October 1, 1953, at Hazel Green, WI, the son of Burell and Ruth (Bussan) Brashaw. He was united in marriage to Nancy A. Doyle, on June 17, 1972, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, in Stockton.
He grew up in Stockton and was a graduate of the Stockton High School, Class of 1971. Paul also graduated from the Morrison, IL, Institue of Technology.
He was a hard working land surveyor, who truly loved what he did. Paul also believed in doing what he could for his community. He was a trustee for the Scales Mound Fire Protection District for (35) years, an EMT with the Galena Area EMS for (20) years, a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #696, of Galena, and a 4th degree member of C. F. Conley Assembly, a member of the Galena Elks Lodge, #882, and the Jo Daviess Soil and Water Conservation Board. In his free time, he loved to play cards - especially Thursday night at the Elks. He was an election judge for Guilford Township, and an avid Chicago Bears fan, who liked to give the Green Bay Packer fans a hard time.
Surviving are his wife of (44) years, Nancy, six (6) children, Jason (Sara) Brashaw, of Dyersville, IA, Eric Brashaw, of Lena, IL, Elizabeth (Jonathon) Monroy, of Galena, IL, Michael (Stephanie) Brashaw, of Freeport, IL, Andrew Brashaw, of Galena, IL, and Erin (fiance', Colton Brenner), of Hazel Green, WI; six (6) grandchildren, A. J. & Kaitlin Rodriguez, Kaleb Brashaw, Alyson and Noah Brashaw, and Brody Brenner; his mother, Ruth Brashaw, of Stockton, IL; his siblings, Jill (Pat) Heim, of Stockton, IL, Patti (Charles) Jackson, of Shullsburg, WI, Terry (Sally) Brashaw, of Freeport, IL, Mark (Karen) Brashaw, of Tombull, TX, and Tim Brashaw, of Olathe, KS; his in-laws, James and Rosemary Doyle, of Galena, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Burell; a son, Neil; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Brashaw.
A Paul C. Brashaw Memorial Fund has been established to continue the Kimberly Brashaw Servant Leadership Scholarship Fund and for the Galena Area EMS.
Nancy and family would like to say a "special thanks" to Denise Stadel for being there when he needed it most, the staff at Midwest Medical Center, and University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, and the Madison Organ Transplant team for the compassionate care that was given to the family.
The Brashaw family "thanks" the Galena Bible Church for use of their building for the family and the community.
