Norman F. "Norm" Welp, 83, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away Wednesday morning, November 5, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Visitation will be from 5 P/M to 8 P/M, on Friday, November 7, 2014, and from 9 A/M to 10 A/M, on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where the parish rosary/scripture service will be at 4:45 P/M, on Friday.
Norm was born on May 16, 1931, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Joseph G. and Ida C. (Klaas) Welp. He was a graduate of East Dubuque High School, and a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the U. S. Air Force.
He was employed at Wm. C. Brown Publishing Company from 1953 until his retirement in 1995. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Parish, a former member of the East Dubuque City Council, East Dubuque Library Board, East Dubuque Lions Club, and an avid golfer at Lacoma Golf Course.
Surviving are his children, Daniel "Buck" Welp, of East Dubuque, IL, Linda (Russ Grant) Welp, of Zwingle, IA, Judy Welp and Ronald "Ernie" Welp, both of East Dubuque, IL, Diane Welp, of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Christine (Tim) Knox, of Oregon, WI; five (5) grandchildren; six (6) great-grandchildren; his siblings, Leora Bemboom, of Dubuque, IA, Glenn (Pat) Welp, of East Dubuque, IL, Janet (Lloyd) Berning, of Hazel Green, WI, and Joyce (Sylvester) Langmeier, of Cuba City, WI; a brother-in-law, Richard Meyer, of East Dubuque, IL.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ida Welp; a sister, Rosita Meyer; a brother-in-law, Leo Bemboom; and a nephew, Joel Meyer.
