Obituary

Norma Jean (Ballagh) Brant, 74, of Hazel Green, WI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Epione Pavilion in Cuba City, WI.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 5:30 P/M on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler, WI, with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in Phillips, WI.

The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL is assisting the family.

Jean was born on March 26, 1941, in Park Falls, WI, the daughter of Norman and Tressia (Mader) Wirsing. She graduated from Park Fall High School in 1959.

On December 14, 1959, she married Paul J. Ballagh, Jr. They owned and operated Big Bear Lodge at Winter, WI, then the Red Top Supper Club in Hazel Green, WI. Paul preceded her in death after 24 years of marriage. She later married Vergil Brant on December 16, 1983.

Jean was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler and its Council of Catholic Women. She loved family time in Northern, WI, gardening and berry picking, reading (especially cookbooks), and passing on her values to her family, always giving back to the community.

She is survived by her husband of thirty-one (31) years, Vergil Brant, of Hazel Green, WI; three (3) sons, Paul Ballagh III (Heidi Brunkow), of Winter, WI, Karl (Vicky) Ballagh, Joe Ballagh (Jodi Noethe); and a daughter, Mari Ellen (Andy) Fessler, all of Hazel Green, WI; grandchildren, Hunter and Josie Ballagh, Lauren, Rylie and Ella Fessler, all of Hazel Green, WI; three (3) step-children, Kenny Brant, David (Mary Jo) Brant and Janice Brant, all of Kieler, WI, six (6) brothers, Joe (Carla) Wirsing, of Winter, WI, Jerry (Marcie) Wirsing, of Phillips, WI, Jon (Kris) Wirsing, Jeffrey (Jacci) Wirsing, Randy (Robin) Wirsing, Jared (Nancy) Wirsing, all of Park Falls, WI, five (5) sisters, Jackie (Bob) Balzer, of Park Falls, WI, Jill Moldenhauer, of LaCrosse, WI, Teri (Mike) Zoesch, of Parker, CO, Jenny (Mike) Pritzl, of Park Falls, WI and Jodi (Ron) Wiest, of Dickeyville, WI; a sister-in-law, Irma (Ballagh) Biermann, of Phillips, WI; numerous nieces and nephews; nine (9) step-grandchildren; and ten (10) step-great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Tressia Wirsing; her first husband, Paul Ballagh, Jr; a son, Mikal Ballagh; and a step-daughter, Debbie (Brant) Leonard.

A special "thank-you" to the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque and Epione Pavilion for the compassionate care given to Jean and her family.
