Melvin E. Young, 83, of rural Galena, IL, passed away at 2:45 A/M, Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community.

Funeral Services will be at 2 P/M, Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Galena United Methodist Church, with Rev. Patricia Allen-Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.

Friends may call from 12:30 P/M until the time of services on Wednesday at the church. The Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena, is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin was born on November 29, 1929, in Galena, the son of Benjamin and Grace Young. He was a graduate of Galena High School, and was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.

Melvin farmed until the early 1980's, and previously worked at Kraft Foods in Galena. He was a seasonal employee at the Galena Territory and Chestnut Mountain Lodge. He was a member of the Galena United Methodist Church.

Surviving is his brother, LeVerne Young, of Fresno, CA; nieces and nephews, David (Nita Ann) Young, Michael Young, and Susie Copeland, all of California, Marcia (Donald) Bunchman, of Springfield, IL, and Jim (Theresa) Hasken, of Richmond, IL; and great nieces and nephews.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Bernice (Alfred) Hasken; and a sister-in-law, Mary Frances Young.
