Melvin G. Bayer, 78, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away, on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at home.
Funeral services will be at 7 P/M, on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, with Morgan Frazer as eulogist. Military honors will be accorded by members of the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Visitation will be from 5 P/M to 7:30 P/M, on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the funeral home.
Mr. Bayer was born on June 16, 1937, in New Hampton, IA, the son of George and Clara (Thiele) Bayer. He married Frances Elaine Sumerau at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque, on November 25, 1967. Together they raised one (1) daughter.
He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1955. Melvin served in the United States Army from 1961-1963. Melvin was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement in 1994.
Surviving are his daughter, Brenda (Duane) Foust; two (2) grandchildren, Cassandra (Justin) Foust and Lindsay (Matthew) Johnson; sisters, Mary Ann Nielsen, Elaine Newhouse, Lois Mills, Marlene Honaker and LaVonne (Jerry Hoffman) Bayer; brothers, Roger (Sandra) Bayer, Loren (Gloria) Bayer and LaVerne Bayer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Bayer; his parents, George and Clara Bayer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Eva Weninger; and his dog, Baby.
