Obituary

Mary Wachter, 90, of Galena, IL passed away on September 11, 2026, after battling Dementia.

Mary was born on August 9, 1936, in Galena, the daughter of Leo and Mildred (Foecking) Westemeier. She was united in marriage to James “Jim” Wachter on June 25, 1960.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a woman of deep Catholic faith. Her religious devotion was the center of her life, and she was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she found great joy in serving her parish.

Mary shared many years of her musical gift as an organist and choir member at the church. She was a dedicated member of the Altar and Rosary Society since 1963, giving generously of her time to the church she loved.

Mary cherished her family. She was the beloved wife of James “Jim” Wachter, loving mother to Dan (Karen), Susie Duffy and Catherine Wachter. She was a proud grandmother to Keith (Maddie) Wachter and Kari (Joe) Staley, and a loving great grandmother to Mia and Lucy Staley.

Mary will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her devotion to her family, her love of music and the many years she dedicated to the church. Her life was one of service, and her presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. May she rest peacefully in the loving arms of God and be reunited with those who have gone before her.
