Marilyn B. Holland, 79, of Galena, IL, passed away, of lung cancer, on Friday, May 9, 2014, at home,

Friends may call from 3 P/M to 7 P/M, Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena.

Funeral Services will be at 10 A/M, Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena, with Rev. Fred Baltz and Rev. Dennis Hill officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.

Marilyn was born on December 31, 1934, in Galena, IL, the daughter of Dewey and Anna (Temperly) Zeal. She married Lewis A. Holland on June 10, 1955. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1984, of Parkinson's Disease.

She was a 1952 graduate of Galena High School and organized their reunions for many years.

Marilyn was a member of the Galena Elks Lodge #882, and also a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, of Galena, since 1956. Marilyn was an active member of WELCA and Ruth Circle for many years.

She had a passion for playing cards-mostly euchre. Marilyn was an avid Chicago Cubs and Dubuque Fighting Saints fan. She loved playing bingo and going to casinos.

She is mostly remembered as "The Cable Lady". Marilyn retired after 31 years with Mediacom in Galena. She worked 11 years as a telephone operator at AT&T in Galena. She also worked at the Jo Daviess County Courthouse in the State's Attorney's office and at Burgess Battery Company in Galena.

Survivors include: a daughter, Nancy (Greg) Johnson, of Roseville, MI; a son, Marvin (Jane) Holland, of Galena, IL; three (3) granddaughters, Kim Herman, of Sterling Heights, MI, Lori Herman, of Roseville, MI, and Kelsy Holland, of Galena, IL, one (1) great-granddaughter, Taylor Nevinski, of Sterling Heights, MI; one (1) sister, Pearl Ortscheid, of South Beloit, IL; one (1) brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill (Dorothy) Holland, of Stockton, IL; three (3) sisters-in-law, Joyce Zeal, of Warren, IL, Marie Kempert, of Galena, IL, and Susan Vandervate, of Hanover, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three (3) brothers, Harley Zeal, of Hanover, IL, Floyd Zeal and Allen Zeal, both of Warren, IL; and fifteen (15) year special friend, Ron Moser.
