Obituary

Louis A. Nack Jr., age 90, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at St. Dominic Villa in Hazel Green Wisconsin. He was born on February 27, 1935, the son of Louis and Helen (Waldron) Nack. He married Dolores McWilliams at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Seymour Township, Shullsburg, WI, on June 20, 1959, and they were united in marriage for over 66 years. The marriage was blessed with five children.

A lifelong Galena resident, Louis graduated from Campion High School (Prairie Du Chien, WI) in 1952. He graduated from the College of Holy Cross (Worcester, MA) in 1956. He started law school at the University of Michigan in 1956 and left law school to enlist in Officer Candidate School for the US Navy. He was sworn into the US Navy on his 22nd birthday on February 27, 1957, and served until June 1960, leaving with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Officer Grade. He was in the Beachmasters Two, Amphibious Navy and later transferred to instructor school. Louis received several medals and ribbons in the Navy.

After his military time, Louis worked for the American Can Company. He left the American Can Company in 1964 and re-enrolled in law school at the University of Illinois and graduated with the class of 1966. Louis returned to Galena, IL, in 1966 to practice law with his father, Louis A. Nack Sr., and James Richardson. Louis worked primarily out of the Elizabeth, IL office. His younger brother James Nack joined the firm in 1974, and they worked together for nearly 50 years. His sons, Joseph Nack and Thomas Nack, joined the firm and continue to practice along with Hailey Wills. Louis also practiced with the Honorable William Kelly and Terry Kurt. Louis worked together with his dedicated and loyal legal assistant, Norma McClain, for over 50 years.

Louis was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena Elks, Galena VFW, Knights of Columbus, Illinois Bar Association, and past president of the Jo Daviess County Bar Association.

Louis loved growing up in Galena and raising his family there. He made many life-long friends. He was a wonderful storyteller and enjoyed sharing stories about his childhood with his family and friends. He had a long and happy life and left us with fond memories.

Louis loved being an attorney and was proud of the family law firm and its long history in Galena. He was known for his personal and professional integrity, as well as for his fairness, honesty, compassion, and common sense. He was a devoted husband to Dolores and a caring and loving father and grandfather.

Louis is survived by his wife, Dolores Nack; his four children, Michael, Joseph (Jill) , Thomas (Sarah), and Anne (John). He is survived by seven grandchildren, Samantha, Christopher, Tyler, Benjamin, William, Gus and Ruby. He is survived by his brother, James (Patricia) Nack; sister-in-law Kathleen Kelley; and brother-in-law, Dennis (Sutti) McWilliams as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Louis was predeceased by his infant daughter, Mary Kathleen; his parents, Louis and Helen Nack; his in-laws, Joseph and Mary Ellen McWilliams; his sister and brother-in-law, Lenore and Dr. Robert Huber; his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Charles Allen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Darlene McWilliams; his nephew and godson Joseph Huber; and niece Mary Huber.
