Obituary

Lou Mae (Louise Mabel Vanderah) Hasken, 90, of West Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of East Dubuque, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Hospital, in Des Moines, following a sudden illness with family by her side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque, Illinois, with Father Edilberto Jarapa officiating. Burial will follow at the East Dubuque Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, where the family and friends will recite the rosary at 2:30 p.m.

Lou Mae was born on March 2, 1934, in East Dubuque, the daughter of Eldon and Eleanor (Roth) Vanderah. She married her childhood sweetheart, Vincent Joseph Hasken, on August 28, 1954, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque, Illinois. They were blessed with 60 years of marriage before Vince passed away on November 12, 2014.

For the majority of her life, Lou Mae was a member of St. Mary's Parish in East Dubuque. She played the piano for Mass and many other Church related events, and was devoted to Adoration. Praying the rosary brought her great comfort.

Lou Mae loved playing cards, Euchre was her game. She rarely missed a Cubs game on TV, and was an avid Hawkeye fan. She was a beautifully gifted pianist. She studied music at Clarke University and was the accompanist for many local performances in her day.

Surviving are nine (9) children; Angela (Jeff) Shalla, of Iowa City, Iowa, Joan (Jim) Lampe, of Castle Rock, Colorado, Diane (Kevin) Hilby, of Rockford, Illinois, Teresa (Kevin) Driscoll, of Des Moines, Iowa, Sandra (Eric) Zelinskas, of Valdosta, Georgia, Sarah (Peter) Stonskas, of Park View, Iowa, Amy (Roger) Oberfoell, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Robert "Rob" (Lindsay) Hasken, of Savoy, Illinois, Kathryn "Katie" (Aaron) Robinson, of Johnston, Iowa; fifty-two grandchildren; and seventy-five great grandchildren.

Also surviving Lou Mae are her siblings; Elaine (James) McNeil, of East Dubuque, Illinois, Mary "Monnie" Liddle, of Morton, Illinois, Esther Schiltz, of Austin, Texas, Marlene (Richard) May, of Asbury, Iowa, and Steve (Mary) Vanderah, of Iowa City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vince, on November 12, 2014; her son, Greg, on April 1, 2007; her parents, Eleanor on May 6, 1996, and Eldon on December 25, 1999; her brother, Jerry on July 4, 1973; and her son-in-law, Roger Oberfoell.
