Loran L. Schonhoff, age 82, of Menominee, IL, passed away Monday morning, October 13, 2025, at Unity Point-Finley Hospital, Dubuque, IA, surrounded by his family.
Family and friends may call from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m., on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, at Menominee, IL, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Bosco Aruldoss officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The Miller Funeral Home of East Dubuque, IL is assisting the family.
Loran was born on September 13, 1943, at home, in Menominee, Illinois, the son of LaVerne P. "Sparky" and Kathryn "Kate" (Ricke) Schonhoff.
Loran graduated from Wahlert High School, the Class of 1961. He was a veteran of U. S. Army serving during the Vietnam era. On May 11, 1968, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Leibfried at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Tennyson, WI.
After 32 years as an Industrial Engineer at Flexsteel Industries, he retired in 2005.
Loran, KA9IVP, was an avid radio amateur. He enjoyed coffee and breakfast with the local ham operators. He was often found woodworking in his garage, hunting and farming with his Dad and brother, Howard.
Loran was a member of Nativity BVM Parish and its Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, and managed Nativity BVM Cemetery. He also served many years as an election judge for Menominee Township.
Most of all he loved being a grandpa to his three beautiful girls. He enjoyed watching them thrive in school and life.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen; daughter, Lori (Jeff) Wienen, of Galena, IL; three grandchildren, Samantha, Alyssa, and Sara Wienen; and a brother, Howard (Jan) Schonhoff, of Menominee, IL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; his in-laws, Bill (Mary) Leibfried, Ronald Leibfried and Carol (Gary) Haas.
Loran was preceded in death by his parents, Sparky and Kate; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cyril and Bernadine Leibfried; and brother-in-law, David Leibfried.
