Obituary
Lloyd J. Schardt, 75, of 3460 Starlite Drive, Dubuque, IA, and formerly of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at home.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 1 P/M to 5 P/M, on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A/M, on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, with Rev. Leah Barker officating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of American Legion Post #787 of East Dubuque. Members of the American Legion Post #787 will meet at the funeral home at 4 P/M, on Sunday.
Lloyd was born on August 21, 1939, in Dickeyville, WI, the son of Lawrence and Margaret (Helbing) Schardt. He was united in marriage to Jan Russell on August 2, 2001, in Dubuque, IA. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2014.
Lloyd was employed at the Eska Manufacturing Company for thirteen (13) years, Mercy Hospital for three (3) years, and retired from Barnstead/Thermolyne as a Computer Systems Manager in January, 2000.
Lloyd graduated from Shullsburg, WI High School, Class of 1958. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving from December, 1959, to June, 1963. He served in Germany for three (3) years.
Lloyd loved playing euchre, especially in the Community room at "The Woodlands", time spent with family, especially his grandchildren, and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers football programs. He was a member of American Legion Post #787 of East Dubuque, Knights of Columbus Council #7527 and Msgr. C. F. Conley Assembly - 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Dubuque Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are four (4) children, Nancy (Dave) Dunham, of Coal Valley, IL, Gary (Sheri) Schardt, of North Liberty, IA, Luke (Ellen) Schardt, of Dubuque, IA, and Kelly (Tyler) Kowalski, of Ft. Rucker, AL; six (6) grandchildren; his siblings, Norm (Mary) Schardt, of Menominee Falls, WI, Ron (Shirley) Schardt, of Shullsburg, WI, Mary (Jim) Lee, of Blanchardville, WI, and Bob (Darlene) Schardt, of Dubuque, IA; sisters-in-law, Donna Schardt, of Freeport, IL, and Jerri Lou Schardt, of Belvidere, IL.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers, Gerald, Lyle and Eldie; and a sister, Elvira (Lawrence) Ihm.
