Obituary

Lloyd J. Hoppman, 86, of Menominee, IL, passed away at 5:30 P/M, Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA, surrounded by his family.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, in Menominee, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in Nativity BVM Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Friends may call from 3 P/M to 8 P/M, on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, and from 9 A/M to 9:45 A/M, on Thursday, August 14, 2014, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be recited at 2:45 P/M, on Wednesday.

Lloyd was born on February 26, 1928, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Philip & Genevieve (Wiegman) Hoppman. He married Virginia A. "Ginny" Duehr on January 19, 1952, at Sacred Heart Church, in Dubuque. She preceded him in death on August 31, 2013.

Lloyd was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He and Ginny raised eleven (11) children on their family farm near Menominee. Over the years he enjoyed golfing, bowling, farming, was an avid card player and looked forward to the annual family camping trip to Sugar Bottom. He was a member of Nativity BVM Parish. He retired from Ruan Transport Company as shop foreman in 1990 after thirty-six (36) years of service. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during World War II, and was a graduate of Loras Academy.

Surviving are his nine (9) children, Susan (Roger) Anderson, Sharon (Randy) Saffron, Tom (Peggy) Hoppman, Tim (Chris) Hoppman, Don Hoppman, Ann (Jim) Burke, Mike Hoppman, Gerry (Chris) Hoppman, and Karen (Keith) Knockel; a daughter-in-law, Sue Ellen Hoppman; twenty-nine (29) Grandchildren; twenty-five (25) Great-Grandchildren; his siblings, Paul (Cal) Hoppman, John (Sheri Tomkins) Hoppman, and Maryann Tuegel; his in-laws, Velma Hoppman and Doris Hoppman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ginny; two (2) sons, David and Richard; a great-grandson, Dylan Howell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Peter & Martha (Spielbauer) Duehr; his siblings, Virgil, Jim, Tom and Charlie (Phyllis) Hoppman; his in-laws, Rita (Ray) Leppert, Bill (Isabelle) Duehr, Jeanette Hoppman and Bob Tuegel.

Lloyd's family wishes to "thank" Dr. Christian Schultheis, and the staff at Mercy Medical Center for the excellent care given to their father and grandfather.
