Obituary

Lawrence E. "Larry" Klein, 71, of Menominee, IL, passed away at 6:43 A/M, Monday, April 8, 2013, at home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Nativity BVM Church at Menominee. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of American Legion Post #787 of East Dubuque.

Friends may call from 3 P/M to 7:30 P/M, Friday, April 12, 2013, and from 9 A/M to 10 A/M, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, were the parish rosary/scripture service will be at 3 P/M, Friday. Members of American Legion Post #787 will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 P/M, Friday.

Larry was born on October 24, 1941 at Platteville, WI, the son of Henry and Laura (Langkamp) Klein. He married Jane A. (Ricke) Grant on May 6, 1967 at Menominee.

Larry was a truck driver, retiring from Cardox. He and Jane also operated Larry's Hilltop near East Dubuque for 19-years.

Larry enjoyed woodworking, fishing, western movies, a good game of cards, especially euchre and hand and foot, and visiting and hanging out with friends.

Larry was a member of the Army Reserves, and the Wisconsin National Guard - 32nd division, 5th & 6th Armies, Nativity BVM Parish, American Legion Post #787 of East Dubuque, Knights of Columbus - Council #7527, of East Dubuque, Msgr C. F. Conley Assembly - 4th Degree, B.P.O.E. Lodge #882 of Galena, and Past Chief of the Menominee-Dunleith Fire Department.

Surviving are his wife, Jane; four children, Jeff (Casey) Klein, of East Dubuque, IL, Rhonda (Shawn Bryson) Johnson, of Maquoketa, IA, Tina (Scott) Bennett, of Bremerton, WA, and Dawn (Kent) Runde, of Hazel Green, WI; Seven grandchildren, Jake, Justin & Verity Johnson, Mya & Laynee Runde, Josh & Jesse Bennett; his siblings, Loretta Reuter, of Platteville, WI, Joseph (Eileen) Klein, of Mt. Hope, WI, Robert (Dolores) Klein, of Dickeyville, WI, Nick (Marge) Klein, of Mt. Hope, WI, Paul (Eevie) Klein, of Strawberry, AZ, Francis (Ann) Klein, of Platteville, WI, Marcella Klein and Eileen Birkett, both of Dickeyville, WI; many nieces and nephews; his in-laws, Phyllis Klein, of Tennyson, WI, Art Schoot, of Prior Lake, MN, Karen (Red) Link, of Mesa, AZ, Norma (Ervin) Splinter, of Eldridge, IA, and Adele (Dave) Houttakker, of Cuba City, WI.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Jon Paul Johnson and Stephen Lawrence Bennett; a brother, Vincent Klein; a sister, Donna Schoot; two brothers-in-law, Clifford Reuter and Paul Birkett; his father and mother-in-law, Bill & Hilda (Roth) Ricke; and his good fishing buddy, Dallas Mulgrew.

A Larry E. Klein Memorial Fund has been established.

Jane and family wish to thank Fr. Jim Parker, Hospice of Dubuque, especially Megan, Lisa and Jan, their neighbor, Rick, and all relatives and friends for all the cards, prayers, food, and kindness shown to them during Larry's illness.
