Kathleen "Kay" (Mihalakis) Jorgenson, 89, of Glenwood, IA, formerly of Dubuque, IA, passed away at 4:50 P/M, on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Linnwood Estates Assisted Living in Glenwood.

Funeral Services will be at 10 A/M, on Friday, June 5, 2015, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Dubuque. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 A/M until times of services on Friday at the church.

Kay was born on May 18, 1926, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Phillip and Viola (Neubauer) Mihalakis. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy, Class of 1944. Kay was formerly employed at Target and Stanley Home Products in Dubuque. She also sold Avon and was a homemaker, which was her highest priority.

Kay grew up in the "flats" of Dubuque and was very proud of her Greek heritage. She loved reading and playing Euchre with all the gang from Boleyn Road and Davis Street. Kay was a long time member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Dubuque. When she moved to Glenwood in 2002, she joined the congregation of St. John's Episcopal Church in Glenwood. Kay spent many hours making Chaplets with the Glenwood congregation. This mission project has sent thousands of chaplet beads to service men and women all over the world.

She married the love of her life, LaVerne Jorgenson, on February 12, 1955. They had twenty-eight (28) wonderful years together.

Surviving are four (4) daughters, Diane L. O'Pry, (Tim), of Waleska, GA, Karen J. Spahn, (Justin), of Glenwood, IA, Joann I. Jorgenson, of Laguna Niguel, CA, and Lisa K. Miller, of Omaha, NE; six (6) grandchildren, Kenny O'Pry, Kathleen O'Pry, Logan Miller, Corbin Miller, Raleigh Spahn and Rileigh Spahn; two (2) brothers, Louis Mihalakis and John (Junnie) Mihalakis, of Dubuque, IA; three (3) sisters-in-law, Midge Mihalakis, of Dubuque, IA, Deloris L. Luse, of Cedar Rapids, IA and Joyce E. Shaffer (George Frankenfelt), of Dayton, OH; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne (Bub) Jorgenson, who passed away on February 9, 1983. She loved him the rest of her life. Also deceased are her parents; three (3) sisters, Lorie Weidenbacher, Harriet Bush and Irene Waltz; a brother, George Mihalakis; two (2) sisters-in-law, Elizabeth I. Schmitt and Margaret (Waltz) Mihalakis; brothers-in-law, John (Hank) Waltz, Edward C. Luse and Frank Shaffer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Kathleen Jorgenson Memorial Fund or the Shalom Retreat Center in Dubuque.

The family would like to "thank" all the staff at Linnwood Estates in Glenwood, IA, Hospice with Heart, and all of Kay's family, friends and neighbors from Dubuque and Glenwood for their care, concern, and friendship, which enabled her to live as independently as possible over the last few years.
