Obituary

Karl H. Burroughs, 90, of East Dubuque, IL, and formerly of Menominee, IL, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019, at home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at the Nativity BVM Church, at Menominee, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating.  Burial will be in Nativity BVM Cemetery, with military honors accorded by American Legion Post #787.

Visitation will be from 3 P/M to 7 P/M, on Friday, February 1, 2019, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be recited at 2:30 P/M.  Members of American Legion Post #787 will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 P/M, Friday.  There will also be a visitation from 9:15 A/M to 10:15 A/M, on Saturday, at Nativity BVM Church.

Karl was born on January 19, 1929, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Richard and Lucille (Ricke) Burroughs.  He was a graduate of East Dubuque High School, Class of 1947.  He was united in marriage to Eunice Ricke, his life partner, on June 23, 1956, at Nativity BVM Church.  The were happily married for (62) years.

Karl was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.  He was a very caring person and heavily involved in the East Dubuque Community, acting as one of the organizers of the East Dubuque Kids Zone.  Karl's family was his pride and joy.  Karl was an avid card player enjoying numerous card games, especially Euchre and Solo.  He and Eunice enjoyed traveling to visit family.

Karl spent his career working a number of different jobs, from retail management  to handyman and property owner.  His most prized role was that of loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He was a member of St. Mary's Parish, Knights of Columbus Council #7527 and Msgr. C. F. Conley Assembly - 4th Degree, American Legion Post #787 of East Dubuque, and V.F.W. Post #2665 of Galena.

Surviving are his wife, Eunice, (4) children, Alan (Barbara) Burroughs, of Hazel Green, WI, David (Dolores) Burroughs, of Elburn, IL, Pam Straka, of Dubuque, IA, and Vicky (Michael) Schoen, of DePere, WI; (14) grandchildren, Beth, Alex, Ben, Joe, Andrew, Wendy, Shawn, April, Miranda, Rachael, Christopher, Kim, Connor and Kaylee; (12) great-grandchildren; his sister, Sandy Conzett, of Cassville, WI; brother-in-law, Leonard Ricke, of East Dubuque, IL; and sister-in-law, Barb Burroughs, of Galena, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lucille; a brother, Bill (Margie) Burroughs; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Victor and Mary Ricke; sister-in-law, Shirley Ricke; son-in-law, Don Straka; and a grandson, Luke Schuller.
