Obituary

Joseph Francis Runde, 97, of rural Hazel Green, WI, passed away on Sunday morning, April 9, 2017, at Stonehill Care Center, in Dubuque, IA.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, at Sinsinawa, WI, with Fr. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of Dubuque American Legion Post #6.

Visitation will be from 4 P/M to 7 P/M, on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be at 3:45 P/M, on Tuesday.

Family and friends may also call from 9:15 A/M to 10:15 A/M, on Wednesday, at the church.

Joe was born on February 8, 1920, near Sinsinawa, WI, the son of Lawrence and Frances (Fleege) Runde. He was united in marriage to Marie E. Hall, on November 27, 1946, at St. Patrick's Church, in Dubuque. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2003.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, at Sinsinawa, and American Legion Post #6, of Dubuque.

Joe was a W.W.II veteran serving with the U. S. Army. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division and participated in the European and North African campaigns, serving under Gen. George Patton, until his discharge in September, 1945.

He farmed, was self-employed and owned Runde's Feed & Farm Supply in Hazel Green.

Surviving are four (4) children, Michael J. (Rita) Runde, of Leesburg, VA, Mary (John) Kuncaitis, of Rochester, MN, Mark A. Runde and Steven M. (JoAnn) Runde, both of Hazel Green, WI; four (4) grandchildren, Christopher Runde, Amy Brantis, Sara Kuncaitis-Wall and John D. Kuncaitis; seven (7) great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Mary Lou Tressel and Tony Runde, both of Hazel Green, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Frances; wife, Marie; a brother, Ralph Runde; and two (2) sisters, Dorothy Burbach and Helen Meyer.

Joe's family wishes to express "special thanks" to Hospice of Dubuque and the girls on 2nd floor at Stonehill for the excellent care provided to their father.
