Joseph C. "Joe" Hiebel, 86, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Monday morning, October 12, 2015, at Bell Tower Retirement Community, East Dubuque, IL.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at St. Mary's Church, East Dubuque, with Fr. Dean Smith and Msgr. Dean Walz concelebrating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of American Legion Post #787.
Visitation will be from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, on Friday, October 16, 2015, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where the Parish Rosary will be recited at 3:45 P/M. Friends may also call from 9:30 A/M to 10:15 A/M, on Saturday, at the church.
Members of the East Dubuque American Legion Post #787 will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 P/M, on Friday night.
Joe was born on March 19, 1929, in Zanesville, OH, the son of Carl and Beatrice "Dot" (Lingle) Hiebel. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict serving from 1948-1952.
Joe was a graduate of St. Nicholas Grade School and High School in Zanesville. He received his B.A. from the University of Dayton, Dayton, OH, and his Masters of Hospital Administration from St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO.
He was the first lay assistant at St. Raphael's Hospital, New Haven, CT; first lay assistant at All Souls Hospital, Morristown, NJ; the first lay administrator at Xavier Hospital, Dubuque, IA; and was a partner at Computer Doctors in Dubuque. He retired from Mercy Medical Center, in Dyersville, IA, where he served as Vice-President.
Joe was an avid golfer and golfed in the Wednesday night league at Lacoma Golf Course for many years.
Joe was a member of St. Mary's Church, East Dubuque, Knights of Columbus, Council #7527, East Dubuque, American Legion Post #787, and the East Dubuque Lions Club. He was a Life Fellow of the American College of Hospital Administrators, and past member of several hospital health care organizations.
Surviving are one (1) sister, Eleanor Riggle, of Wooster, OH; one (1) brother, Don Hiebel, of Sylvania, OH; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Kirk & Michele Van Ostrand and family, and Steve and Marcie High and family, all of East Dubuque, IL.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and six (6) brothers, Robert, Ralph, Henry, Lewis, Dick and Ray Hiebel.
Joe's family and extended family wish to "thank" the staffs of Bell Tower Retirement Community and Hospice of Dubuque for the wonderful care provided to Joe.
In lieu of flowers, a Joe Hiebel Memorial Fund has been established.
