Obituary

John A. Schueller, Sr, 83, of rural Menominee, IL, passed away, on Friday morning, September 2, 2016, at home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Monday, September 5, 2016, at the Nativity BVM Church, in Menominee, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in Nativity BVM Cemetery, with military honors accorded by members of the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Visitation will be from 2 P/M to 6 P/M, on Sunday, September 4, 2016, and from 9 A/M to 9:45 A/M, on Monday, September 5, 2016, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque.

John was born on February 11, 1933, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Robert J. and Helen M. (Kunlow) Schueller. He was united in marriage to Betty Blume on February 11, 1961, at St. John the Baptist Church, in Peosta, IA. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was employed as a truck driver, first for Walt Burds Trucking, at Peosta, IA, and later for Briggs Transportation. John also farmed in Menominee Township. He was a member of Nativity BVM Parish and was a former member of General Drivers' Local #421.

John loved gardening, a good game of euchre, tractor pulling, cutting wood and riding the four-wheeler.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; nine (9) children, Mary Lou (Dan) Fitzgibbons, Connie (Bob Wemett) Schueller, both of East Dubuque, IL, John Schueller, Jr, of Dyersville, IA, Mark (Debbie) Schueller, of East Dubuque, IL, Joyce (Mark Sarazin) Schueller, of Hazel Green, WI, Daryl (fiance', Lois Green) Schueller, of East Dubuque, IL, Diane (Chris) Kennedy, of North Dakota, Bob (Missy) Schueller, of Cuba City, WI, and Richard (Cindy) Schueller, of Galena, IL; fourteen (14) grandchildren, Alex, Stuart, Carson, Carter, Kaylee, Nate, Dakota, Hunter, Megan, Ricky, Jr., Tim, Hanna, Lainey, and Aidan, one (1) great-grandchild, Landon; his siblings, Jim Schueller, of Durango, IA, Marian (Francis) Koetz, of Centralia, IA, Darlene (Francis) McDonald, of Asbury, IA, and Ruth Leibold, of Peosta, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one (1) brother, Wayne "Bud" Schueller; and one (1) sister, Virginia Banwarth.

Betty and family wish to "thank" Dr. Christian Schultheis, the staff and nurses from Hospice of Dubuque, and a "special thank you" to his granddaughter, Alex Burrows, who sat with her grandpa to the end and did not leave his side to take care of him and guide him to the other side.
