John H. Leibold, 76, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away at 1:15 P/M, Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, Thursday, February 13, 2014, at St. Mary's Church, East Dubuque, IL, with Rev. Dean Smith, Rev. Daniel Tranel, and Rev. James Chappel concelebrating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery.
Per John's request, there will be no public visitation.
The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.
John was born in East Dubuque on April 25, 1937, the son of John N. and Rosalie (Rierdon) Leibold. He married Carol A. Lolwing, on June 18, 1960, at St. Francis De Sales Church, in Hazel Green, WI. She preceded him in death on September 16, 2012.
John was affectionately known by his nicknames of "Snappy & Hammerhead". He operated Leibold's 76 Gas Station for over 30 years. After selling the gas station, he became a licensed realtor in Galena, having last worked for Preferred Properties. John was a hard worked and left a lasting impression on many people. He and his wife, Carol, loved to travel. John enjoyed making kettles of soup for his grandchildren and friends. He was known for working hard and playing hard. John was a member of St. Mary's Parish. He loved gardening, growing melons, and was known for his tomatoes.
Surviving are his children, Laurie (Darreyl) Sebrook and their children, Christa, Kayla and Cody, of Rosemont, MN, John (Jennifer) Leibold III and their children, Margaret, Annie, Jack, Katherine and George, of Sarasota, FL, Gary (JoEllen) Leibold and their children, Gunnar, Abbie, Shawna, and Garrett, of East Dubuque, IL, and Troy (Jackie) Leibold and their children, Will and Lauren, of Dubuque, IA; three brothers, Jim (Mary Lu) Leibold and Paul (Mary Jean) Leibold, both of East Dubuque, IL, and Val (Goody) Leibold, of Aurora, CO; three sisters, Margaret "Mag" Buse and Alice (Don) Pettit, both of Dubuque, IA, and Sheila (Jim) Meyer, of Dyersville, IA; in-laws, Ardelle "Toots" Leibold, of East Dubuque, IL, Elaine (Denny) Rath, of Dubuque, IA, and Bob Schmitt, of Denver, CO.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John & Rosalie; his wife, Carol; a son, Bradley Joseph and infant Leibold; a granddaughter, Kelly Marie Sedbrook; four sisters, Linda Leibold, Helen Droessler, Kate Temperley, and Roseann Schmitt; two brothers, Peter Leibold and Philip "Flip" Leibold; and two brothers-in-law, Ed Droessler and David Buse.
