John J. "Jack" Kies, 85, of Kieler, WI, passed away at 1 A/M, Sunday, January 20, 2013 at ManorCare Health Services, Platteville, WI, with his family by his side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kieler, with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of Cuba City VFW Post #8318.
Friends may call from 3 P/M to 7 P/M, Tuesday, January 22, 2013 and from 9:30 A/M to 10:15 A/M, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Kieler, where the parish rosary will be said Tuesday at 2:45 P/M.
Jack was born on January 3, 1928, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Clarence and Irene (Guerdet) Kies. He married Dorothy "Dot" Long on January 6, 1951 at St. Mary's Church, Dubuque. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict.
Jack was formerly a route salesman for Sweetheart Bakery and Trausch Baking Company until his retirement. He was a charter member of the Kieler Volunteer Fire Department, serving 15 years; a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and its Holy Name Society, where he served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister; and a member of Teamsters Union, Local #421.
Jack loved travelling, gardening, a good game of euchre, and spending time with the grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy "Dot"; four sons, David (Sherry) Kies, of Platteville, WI, Dick (Christy) Kies, and Dan (Lori) Kies, both of Dubuque, IA, and Duane (Heather) Kies, Kieler, WI; eight grandchildren, Bethany and Megan, Chris (Candace) and Tara, Stephanie and Tim, and Addie and Harry; three great-grandchildren, Zoe, Kiah and Dawson; one sister, Joann Reiss, of Dubuque, IA; a brother-in-law, Ken (Beth) Splinter, of Dubuque, IA; and a sister-in-law, Lee Kies, of LaMotte, IA.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Karl; and a sister, Joyce Splinter.
In lieu of flowers, a John "Jack" Kies Memorial Fund has been established.
