Obituary

John T. "Bud" Hingtgen, 88, of Kieler, WI, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, IA, surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Kieler, with Fr. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by members of American Legion Post #104, of Cuba City, WI.

Friends may call from 3 P/M to 8 P/M, Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, where the parish scripture service will be at 2:45 P/M. Friends may also call from 9:15 A/M to 10:15 A/M, Saturday, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Kieler.

John was born on January 17, 1925, in Zwingle, IA, the son of Ted and Dolly (McCarthy) Hingtgen. He married Vivian Pancratz on May 29, 1951, at St. Joseph's Prairie Church, rural Dubuque.

John served in the Army during World War II, stationed in the Phillipines. One of his proudest moments was being able to go on the first honor flight out of Dubuque to Washington, D.C. on May 18, 2010.

John worked at the Dubuque Packing Company for 32 1/2 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department in Kieler for 18 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #104, Cuba City, WI.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Vivian; his children, Paul (Jan) Hingtgen, of Norfolk, NE, Susan (Eldon) Tranel, of Menominee, IL, Marla (Kevin) Jirak, of Tucson, AZ, Mark Hingtgen, of Norfolk, NE, Mary Hingtgen, of Dubuque, IA, Richard (Mary Kane) Hingtgen, of Kieler, WI, Dale Hingtgen, of Dubuque, IA, Lisa (Mike) Beaves, of Des Moines, IA, Alan (Susan) Hingtgen, of Rantoul, IL, Jerry (Liz) Hingtgen, of Gilbert, AZ, and Amy (Jim) Spraque, of rural Hazel Green, WI. John was the grandfather to Karissa (Gabriel) Sanabria, of San Diego, CA, Arica (Juan Gonzales) Hingtgen, of Mesa, AZ, Ted Hingtgen, of Kieler, WI, Anna Hingtgen, of Camp Verde, AZ, Molly (Derek) Nelson, of New Ulm, MN, Andy Hingtgen, of Milwaukee, WI, Nicole Tranel, of Oak Park, IL, Katie (Corey) Lenz, of Appleton, WI, Abby (Dustin) Young, of Ankeny, IA, Adam Beaves, of Des Moines, IA, Christopher Hingtgen, of Denver, CO, Roberta Hingtgen, of Rantoul, IL, Ava, Ben, and Maria Sprague, of rural Hazel Green, WI; also survived by eight step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Hayden Hingtgen, of Kieler, WI, and Tiffany Hingtgen, of Milwaukee, WI; a brother, Wayne Hingtgen, of Dubuque, IA; sisters-in-law, Bernice Schuster, Monica Pancratz, and Lillian Kies; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Inez Pancratz.

John was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bernadine Geisler; in-laws, Clarence (Theresa) Thole, Charles (Dorothy) Pancratz, Liz (Vess) Ambrosy, Kenneth Pancratz, Henry Schuster, Karl Kies, Pete Ament, and Eugene Geisler.

The family would like to express their sincere "thanks" to the staff at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque, for the wonderful care of John.
